Who is slinkachu?
Slinkachu is an artist who is the god of small things.
He uses small figures of people and takes photographs of them and the he leaves them, where he has taken the photograph. In every shoot he tells a story.Example; In his photo shoots on the left he is showing someone is being hit by a bag. On the other hand I think he is trying to tell a story that someone has been killed with a safety pin. I think the last one he is trying to show us the lady is waiting for someone. |
The little people project started in 2006. it involves the remodelling and painting of minature of miniture model train set characters, which i then place, photograph and leave on the street. it is both a street art installation project and a photography project. the street based side of my work plays with the notion of surprise and I aim to encourage city.
I like this photo because the background is not in focus and the old man is in focus. Slinkachu has used a small depth of field. In the second image Slinkachu creates a story, the stones look like an accident has happened or a building has fallen down. The clever uses of the police van and police tape make this photograph effective, Slinkachu has considered his composition so the viewer looks across the whole image. |
1st shoot
This is my first shoot and I feel that it didn't go well because I did not have a plan to follow and I didn't concentrate. This shows to be a successful photographer you need to be well organised. I will create a plan and concentrate more on where to place my figures and not use so much blue tac in my next shoot.
In my first shoot I have applied different kinds of depth of field and in this photographs I have applied some different angles to investigate which are most effective.
worst photograph..
This is my worst photograph because is over exposed making this photograph too bright. The focus point was on the middle but only on one figure.
Best photograph
This is my best photograph because I used the small depth of field and the focus was on both figures, the grain of the wood draws your eye down the image.
2nd Shoot
This work is my Second Shoot. This shoot is based around the use of a boat and the little characters are its passengers. It shows the two main aspects of the picture. Firstly, on dry land with the boat being stationary, then the boat being placed on the water, allowing it to float around on its own.
The old lady is on the boat and she is in a hurry someone is waiting for her in her home and she is taking food for them.
The old lady is on the boat and she is in a hurry someone is waiting for her in her home and she is taking food for them.
worst photograph..
This is my worst photograph because this photograph is over exposed and I haven't used the focus point on the correct place. I needed to change the white balance as the picture is too yellow, I would have needed to adjust this to tungsten as this would have taken into account the indoor lighting and applied a blue filter.
Best photograph..
This is my best photograph because I have used a small depth of field and the focus point is in correct place. I was trying to tell a story in this picture the old lady is hitching a ride with the young man on his boat.
3rd Shoot.
In this shoot I have tried to experiment with light and create shadows, I am pleased with the outcome of this shoot but feel it needs props to tell more of a story.
4th shoot
I wanted to recreate Slinkachus work as he does, Slinkachu makes all his own props and I think my work would be more successful if I created my own props. I am going to attempt to build a paper boat and float it in this shoot on water, I have found a scourer sponge to use as an island.
Worst photograph..
This is my worst photograph because in this photograph the focus point is not on the correct place and in this photograph I used the wrong depth of field.
Best photograph..
This is my best photograph, I have captured the figures well and set the focus point just right, I like the newspaper boat but the sponge wasn't as affective as I would have hoped. If I took this image again I would have created an island out of grass.
5th shoot
I have again tried to build my own props but use them in a natural environment. For this shoot I built a ladder out of sticks, wire and glue
worst photograph..
This is my worst photograph because this photograph is under exposed and is too dark.
Best photographs..
This is my best photographs. I used a small depth of field in this photographs I also used the correct white balance. I have used the different angles the ladder and the diagonal line of the road make a strong composition.
Final Shoot
I liked using the ladder in the 5th shoot but I thought the paint bottles looked unnatural so I am going to try to use the ladder in a environment where I can use the backgrounds to create texture and interest.
In this photograph I have used a small depth of field my focus point was on the man who is building the road through the texture of the wall, I really like how the different tones of colour in the wall add definition to the photograph
I am trying to show in this picture that the man is cleaning the wall from the grass.
This is the worst picture as the focus isn't in the right place even though the angle of the ladder is strong, I like how the ladder is in the centre and draws the eye up the ladder to the figure.

In this photograph the man is cleaning the window. I used a small depth of field. The focus point is on the man but the window does not really show and isn't as successful as the other shoots as the texture from the wall and sand create a more interesting image.
In this photograph I have used the small depth of field and my focus point was on the sand to add a different texture to the image than the wall and create your focus on the man who is working hard digging in the sand.
In this picture I have used a large depth of field to show the man at the top of the ladder and the grass. Again the texture in this photograph is strong and creates a powerful image I like how the water droplets are below the ladder as if the man is cleaning the grass. This is my favourite image.
